- ➤ Starting June 1, Dayton Metro Library will use unified hours for all branches—Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.—while easing rules like lifting the chaperone requirement at the Main branch and appointment mandates at Southeast to meet summer demand; the library will revert to prior hours after Aug. 2 with the Main branch returning to a 1 to 5 p.m. schedule on Sept. 7. - ➤ ATE, a local non-profit that rescues surplus food to help those in need, received nearly $25,000 from 100+ Women Who Care to build a new pole barn on its Olive Road property. The group, founded by Jen Burns in 2019, has rescued over 1,150,000 pounds of food and will rescue over 500,000 more pounds by year's end. WDTN

- ➤ Dayton businesses are preparing for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly that will change several downtown blocks into a secure NATO village, and some like The Flying Pizza will close from May 21 to 27 to avoid lost income—others await more details on security measures. - ➤ A registered sex offender pleaded guilty in March and was sentenced to probation after he reportedly sexually assaulted an 18-year-old in Dayton—he is now required to register his address daily and attend the Talbert Halfway House. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Christian Black, 25, died in March after an altercation at Montgomery County Jail following his arrest on March 23 after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle on Interstate 70 in Englewood & the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office ruled his death a homicide caused by mechanical and positional asphyxiation during his 24-hour stay. - ➤ Montgomery County Municipal Court Judge James Piergies pleaded guilty to obstructing official business and resigned from the bench as part of a plea deal that dropped more serious felony charges—authorities said his misuse of public office, including the employment of his son, damaged public trust.
