  • Hamvention 2026 is set to run Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17 at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia.   • Local bicycling historian Kathleen Smythe launches her book 'Bicycling through Dayton: 21 Historical Rides' that guides readers along Miami Valley trails + interactive map features accessed by scanning its pages with a smartphone.   • GE Aerospace announced a $30 million workforce training investment in Dayton—Lifting Futures will work with local colleges and industry experts to close the skills gap. Details for local funding are expected in the fall.  Dayton Daily News
  • Ohio gas prices fell by 15.4 cents this week to $4.692 on average, according to GasBuddy, with data from Dayton, Huber Heights, Springfield, and Butler County showing the lowest at Sheetz + $3.992.   • The University of Dayton held its undergraduate commencement at UD Arena on Sunday, May 10, where about 1,600 students received their diplomas.  Dayton Daily News
  • Graduation season in the Miami Valley kicks off today as Greene County Career Center holds its ceremony at 7 p.m. at Nutter Center (more schools follow a busy schedule) and Dayton Business Technology High School will conclude events on June 6 near Memorial Day weekend.  Dayton Daily News

  • Wright-Patterson Air Force Base hosted local events that kicked off Police Week, a national celebration honoring law enforcement & reinforcing community ties, with activities scheduled throughout May.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • AES Ohio requested updated transmission cost recovery rates that would raise a typical residential bill by about $2.98 for 1,000 kWh starting June 1, and the Consumers’ Counsel asked PUCO to hold a hearing to verify these rates are fair (the update is an annual regulatory requirement).  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A national study shows that the 988 crisis lifeline cut youth suicides by 11% since July 2022, saving over 4,000 lives. Dayton Children’s experts praise Ohio’s expanded mobile response teams that now offer free crisis support in all 88 counties.  Dayton Daily News
  • Dayton and Montgomery County Public Health confirmed high lead levels in retro cups sold at The Root Beer Stande (1727 Woodman Drive) after a complaint.
