  • The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Blue Star Mothers of America, Miami Valley Chapter to collect donations for care packages with snacks + hygiene products for overseas troops during an event at a Sam’s Club in Washington Township.  WHIO-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Elsa’s restaurant in Centerville will remain open on June 1 despite rumors it might close early & the restaurant said an official statement will be issued at closing while the city noted Sheetz has one year to plan construction with no set date.  WHIO-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Air Force Museum Foundation will showcase two life-size movie spacecraft models at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base ahead of the May 22 film release. The exhibit will run through the end of 2026.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Vandalia Flight Fest returns in Vandalia — featuring live air shows, family activities and a celebration of aviation history. The event promises interactive exhibits and demonstrations that invite locals to experience the excitement in-person.  Dayton 24/7 Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The HBCU Radio Preservation Project will return digitized audio archives—including 24 hours of original programming and 12 interview recordings—to CSU during an open house on Wednesday, May 13 at 4 p.m. at WYSO in the Union Schoolhouse in Yellow Springs.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Sinclair Community College celebrated thousands of graduates earlier this month in Dayton by awarding over 9,600 degrees and certificates to more than 6,200 students, and President Dr. Steve Johnson said the college prepares graduates for critical regional roles.  Dayton 24/7 Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The YMCA received a Del Mar Grant for Older Adults from the Dayton Foundation to launch Y on the Fly: Golden Hour, a mobile wellness program that will visit senior communities during the fall and winter months (helping ease mobility barriers).  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Montgomery County Public Health is warning residents not to use vintage cups given away by a Dayton restaurant due to possible health risks. The advisory urges immediate caution with these items.  Dayton 24/7 Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dayton will host six opening-round games at UD Arena next March as the NCAA tournament expands to 76 teams in both the men’s and women’s brackets. The expansion is expected to boost local tourism by drawing more teams and spectators.  Dayton 24/7 Now
