COMMUNITY NEWS

  • U.S. 35 faces lane restrictions from today until May 14 for paving work near the Valley Trebein roads, plus events include the Kettering Children's Choir spring concert on May 9, Dayton Arcade art gatherings, and a Troy museum talk on May 13.   • The Roger Glass Center for the Arts opened two years ago and now hosts film festivals, concerts, author talks and classes that bring campus and community together.   • Cinco de Mayo celebrations on Tuesday, May 5 brought local restaurant deals on tacos, margaritas, and free queso — offers from Del Taco, El Pollo Loco, and Tocaya added a festive flavor across Dayton.  WHIO-TV
  • Ohio is launching a year-long celebration for America’s 250th birthday with events statewide, including themed months and festivals. In Dayton, Destination Dayton is planning exhibits at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (in Fairborn), highlighting aviation innovation and the Wright brothers in events that invite community participation.  Flyer News
  • WKRP’s call letters now belong to The Oasis (a Cincinnati station that switched on Monday), airing classic rock and pop on 97.7 FM, 94.5 FM in Dayton, and 106.7 FM in Georgetown. The station kept its format unchanged while celebrating the relaunch with promos from former cast members.  WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jeff Madden, an Edgewood graduate and assistant superintendent at Fairborn Schools, was named superintendent of Edgewood City Schools at a May 4 board meeting and will lead the district in the 2026-2027 school year (Curtis Philpot will shift to Director of Business Operations and Facilities to ease the transition).  Dayton Daily News
  • Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine and state education director Steve Dackin visited Beavertown Elementary on Monday, May 4 to honor five Kettering schools using the science of reading to help kids learn for early success plus review what resources teachers need.  Dayton Daily News
  • Kettering voters approved a 5.93 mill levy bond to fund renovations, including a new middle school and high school upgrades. The levy takes effect in 2026 (with the first tax payment due in 2027).  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water main break on Frederick Pike near North Dixie Drive closed the road at Revive Church polling place on Tuesday, May 5, affecting voters and routing traffic from North Dixie Drive to Needmore Road as repairs (four to six hours) took place.   • Pizza sold under Aldi's Mama Cozzi's and Walmart’s Great Value brands was recalled on Tuesday, May 5, due to salmonella concerns; Dayton shoppers who purchased these items should return or discard them as a precaution, according to USDA FSIS.  WHIO-TV

  • University of Dayton offers intramural pickleball and club teams that draw over 200 students to friendly matches and competitive play.
