  • The Humane Society received a donation of $10,000 from Old Scratch Pizza as part of its Cones for a Cause program today. The funds will support shelter animals with food, medical care + enrichment.  WHIO-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • A World A’Fair celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend at Greene County Fairgrounds and drew up to 25,000 visitors, showcasing food, music and traditions from 32 countries (highlighting unity through diversity).  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Peter Hayes, WYSO operations director and musician, said today he retired his vendor license for his vintage instrument repair business to enjoy more leisure while staying at WYSO in Yellow Springs. He restored pianos for famous clients and now plans to read and record in a new studio.  WYSO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A two-day immersive training for emergency responders continues today at the Calamityville Training Complex in Fairborn. Crash Course Village, a Dayton nonprofit, partners with Howell Rescue Systems to run 10 specialized pits that simulate real-world challenges in vehicle extraction and heavy rescue.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • On Saturday, May 9, Sisters United will host its 22nd Cancer Awareness Luncheon at the Clark County Fairgrounds Mercantile Building at 11:30 a.m.; tickets cost $55. The event includes a Pink Chair discussion with Dayton surgeon Dr. Selyne Samuel on Doxorubicin (the Red Devil), used for triple-negative breast cancer.  Dayton Daily News
