ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a fire at a reportedly abandoned apartment building in Dayton early Sunday morning—officials reported no injuries and are investigating the cause.  WHIO-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Shar'Nay Bell, a 16-year-old from Dayton, was last seen wearing an all black jogging suit and is now missing—authorities are searching for her.  WHIO-TV
  • On April 27th—marking the 5th anniversary of identifying Cheryl Coker’s remains—the Greene County Sheriff said her skeletal remains were found on April 25th, 2020 near her home on Waynesville Jamestown Road after she disappeared on Oct. 2nd, 2018 when her car with all personal belongings was discovered, and her husband was named the primary suspect on Feb. 19th, 2019 while the homicide case remains under investigation.  WDTN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local business leaders in Dayton urged Congress to renew the 2017 tax cuts for small businesses as key provisions will expire later this year and could cause up to a 10%-tax hike for many owners; they also want to change the research-and-development expense rules that slow business growth. Leaders such as Senator Husted, Bernie Moreno and Congressman Mike Turner support the move to help keep dollars in local businesses.  Dayton Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Schools across Dayton have reported modest improvements in chronic absenteeism after meeting with families and students—administrators continue to work on challenges like transportation and student engagement while final annual report numbers will be released in September.  Dayton Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Lebanon village has seen rapid leadership changes following its November election as new mayor Nickerson and council members removed several officials amid allegations of wasteful spending and misconduct—multiple lawsuits, a police vote of no confidence, and five different village managers in one year have deepened local concerns over financial stability and transparency. Town officials are now facing ongoing challenges in rebuilding trust and ensuring effective government services.  Dayton Daily News
  • Montgomery County's road project near Dayton International Airport will get $2 million in TRAC funds to buy right of way and add a shared use path—funding that is part of over $319 million for 14 projects statewide. In Warren County, a road widening project on Ohio 48 will use $2 million for design work to improve safety and ease congestion, with detailed design starting in 2027.  Dayton Daily News

  • Gem City Roller Derby announced its 2025 home season with three double headers at Dayton Convention Center on Saturday, May 3, Saturday, June 28, and Saturday, Aug. 30. The league offers a $40 season pass covering all three games with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and kids under 12 admitted free.  WDTN
