- ➤ Crews including Clark County OSP responded after a vehicle crashed into the Mad River around 6:18 a.m. on I-70 at I-675, blocking lanes and causing heavy backups southeast on I-70 at SR-4/SR-235. WDTN
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Dunkin’ began its soft opening on April 15 at 801 E. Dixie Drive in West Carrollton and will hold its grand opening on May 2 when the first 100 people in line will get free coffee every day for 100 days. Festivities from 8 to 11 a.m. include a prize wheel, photos with Sprinkles, a performance by the West Carrollton High School cheer team, and a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m.—the franchise has partnered with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton for the event. - ➤ An investigation found that persistent gun violence has troubled Dayton's northwest and west neighborhoods for over 25 years—last year 57 violent gun crimes with injuries occurred in the northwest and 50 in the west—and officials say poverty and segregation contribute to the problem while residents endure frequent gunfire near their homes. - ➤ After years of legal effort, Robin Mobley won her house back following rulings in Montgomery County and a state appeals court—confirming that her home was fraudulently transferred via a quit claim deed—showing how such documents can be misused by thieves. WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Dayton’s Qmmunity Leaders work to create safe spaces for queer students on campus and organize social and educational events; the group meets weekly (its major Pride Week event was held from April 7-11) to plan activities that foster inclusion and support. Flyer News
- ➤ Dayton Public Schools got another letter asking it to sign a federal directive that rejects diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and the Board of Education voted 7—0 to refuse it; this decision risks about $50 million in federal funds and could cost Superintendent David Lawrence his license. More than 550 of Ohio’s 615 school districts have signed the directive while some neighboring states did not, underscoring a clear divide in education policy. WYSO
- ➤ West Carrollton School District will host open houses on May 6 and May 13 to let teachers and students say goodbye to Harold Schnell and Harry Russell elementary schools before demolition starts in June. The new elementary school will open in August while a varsity baseball field will be built on the Schnell site, and a new middle/high school will open in 2026-27—costs funded 81% by the state and 19% by the community.
