- ➤ City and state leaders honored WWII veteran John Dorsey by hosting a Dayton celebration with BBQ and desserts ahead of his 106th birthday on Monday, April 28—he lives with his family and gets care at the Dayton VA. - ➤ Rob Holland, a 50-year-old airshow pilot who performed at Dayton Air Show last summer, died on Thursday in a plane crash during landing at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia—he was the only person on board. WHIO-TV

- ➤ Wright State grad student Tharun Sai Nandigam won the 2025 Wright Venture competition and received $5,000 for his startup Kyantra—a smart management platform for kitchens, restaurants and food trucks. - ➤ In 1994, two Sloopy’s employees in Dayton were killed when a claw hammer struck each victim over 18 times during a robbery that stole $800 from a safe and $97 from a cigarette machine—police later arrested former Marine Edmund Earl Emerick III based on eyewitness and forensic evidence, though Emerick maintains his innocence and a 2007 DNA test has not cleared him. - ➤ A 19-year-old suspect arrested Tuesday during a domestic violence call at Autumn Woods Apartments allegedly assaulted two officers and injured a firefighter, leading police to use a Taser before taking him to Montgomery County Jail where he faces charges including felonious assault on a police officer, aggravated assault on a firefighter, domestic violence, strangulation, obstructing justice and resisting arrest. - ➤ On April 22, Miami Township police responded to a domestic violence call at Autumn Woods Apartments near Byers Road where suspect Mykel Jones violently resisted arrest, injuring two officers and a firefighter before being tased and detained — he now faces multiple charges including felonious assault on a police officer, aggravated assault on a firefighter, domestic violence, strangulation, obstructing justice, and resisting arrest. - ➤ Deondrae Poole, 23, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Clark County Court of Common Pleas for the murder of a 35-year-old man fatally stabbed on Dec. 3 at a Meijer on Hillcrest Avenue in Springfield—he will serve an indefinite sentence of 15 years to life with jail-time credit from Dec. 19, 2024 to April 22. - ➤ The Montgomery County ADAMHS board approved the $2.6M sale of the former YWCA Huber Heights campus at 7650 Timbercrest Drive after a second auction. The 19-acre site, which was once the Montgomery County Developmental Center, remains without a planned future use. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ The Ohio Senate will review a House measure that bans food stamps for beverages with more than five grams of added sugar. If approved, the change will require USDA consent as critics from Dayton say the rule unfairly limits SNAP choices. Dayton Daily News
