  • St. Vincent de Paul opened a new donation drive-through at City Thrift on Earth Day to collect used clothing, furniture + household goods for community programs and environmental benefits. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rabbit Hole Books will reopen today (21-29 West First St.) after Dayton officials and the building owner agreed to repair the store following a fire in the adjacent garage that closed it for over two months.   • The Dayton Independent Bookstore Crawl celebrates Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 25 at local bookstores. The two-day event invites visitors to plan their routes and join activities at Star City Booksellers + other venues.  Dayton937.com
  • Rosewood Arts Center in Kettering is calling for Ohio artists to submit original landscape works for its 32nd Annual The View exhibition; submissions open Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026 and continue through April 23, 2026, with a free & open exhibition from June 8 to July 18.  Dayton937.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New federal data shows Butler, Greene and Warren counties ranked among the top 15 for GDP growth in 2024 (with real GDP increases from 4.4% to 4.8%). Experts note that while these figures indicate expanding economic output, they do not show improvements in job growth or living standards.  Dayton Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven Meadowdale Career Technology Center JROTC seniors have enlisted in the Army, Navy, and Air Force and will attend basic training this summer at various locations. Some earned advanced enlistment placements (entering service at a higher rank) and plan to use their JROTC skills during military service.  WHIO-TV
  • Montgomery County Educational Service Center and ADAMHS have partnered to boost positive parenting skills to help students succeed by offering a webinar series; a session took place on April 20th (via Zoom) and more sessions are scheduled soon.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Mother Armentrout said her 6-year-old son Elias, who has autism, left his school building twice during the first week and was denied a tracking device at Charles Huber Elementary in Huber Heights. The family and their lawyer appealed his two-day suspension and expect a decision within five days.  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Vandalia Division of Fire warns residents that the Ohio burn ban remains in effect until May 1 after a rise in illegal outdoor burning this spring; residents are advised to follow safe recreational burning practices by keeping fires 25 feet from structures and using clean, dry wood.  WHIO-TV
  • Local governments in Montgomery, Butler and Warren counties received state funding as part of Ohio’s Shine a Light on Dumpers initiative to fight illegal dumping. Dayton will use its funds to clean the Germantown dump site, while nearby communities plan barriers; applications remain open until July 31.  Dayton Daily News
