  • David Peeples, owner of The Cellar by Bottle Number 121 in Troy, organized donations for the Godin family after a fire on Easter destroyed their Wheeler Street home. Donations of clothing, food, and dry goods were gathered at Troy Walmart and online (with $5,425 raised on GoFundMe) as the family prepares to move into a new rental and begin rebuilding.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Daybreak Dayton is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an Open House on April 24 from 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. at 701 South Patterson Blvd—this event invites local residents to learn about its support for homeless and vulnerable Miami Valley youth.  WDTN

CRIME NEWS

  • Two boys—ages 5 and 6—were reported missing after getting lost in a wooded area in Washington Township on Friday; coordinated efforts by local and state agencies led an hour-long search that found the children safe and returned them to their families.  WDTN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 3.1 magnitude earthquake hit Ohio on April 22, and seismographs recorded a mild tremor—residents reported feeling the shake across the area.  WHIO-TV
  • Dayton will receive a state grant of $47,696.65 to clean up a dumpsite at 3800 Germantown St where illegal dumping has been a health risk. City agencies will hire a contractor to remove the trash + install concrete barriers and cameras to deter future dumping.  WHIO-TV
  • Virginia bluebells are in peak bloom at Aullwood Garden MetroPark in Englewood, where guests can stroll a mile-long path and see hillsides filled with vibrant wildflowers—weather permitting. Visitors are encouraged to head out soon to enjoy the bloom while it lasts.  DaytonLocal.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Human Services Levy Council recommended a one-time $9.17M funding increase in 2026 for the Board of Developmental Disabilities Services to address rising costs and a projected $9.1M budget deficit. Board officials have already cut $4.4M through staff and facility reductions — and the Montgomery County commission will review further proposals next month.  Dayton Daily News
