- ➤ A Dayton woman who was banned from Medicaid services pleaded guilty to felony theft and identity fraud counts and was sentenced to six to nine years in prison plus she must pay $1.5 million in restitution for billing for services that were never provided. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal said the police are sending more officers to crime hot spots by using weekly efforts and a real-time crime center to track trends + planning to launch a violence interruption program later that treats violence like a contagious disease and helps high-risk people get services. - ➤ A review by the Dayton Police Department showed that 135 violent gun crimes with injuries last year were concentrated in neighborhoods like Miami Chapel, Santa Clara, and Summit Square apartments in west and northwest Dayton & local leaders said long-term issues such as poverty and neglected housing have fueled a quarter-century trend of violence. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bellbrook city officials said the Greene County Board of Elections rejected the city’s proposed 2.2-mill public safety levy for May 6 because of a one-digit error (the tax collection year was mistakenly listed as 2025 instead of 2026). The city is investigating the notification process and will schedule the levy on the November ballot after sending it to the Greene County Auditor. Dayton Daily News
