- ➤ An investigation began after a handmade explosive device detonated Saturday morning in the woods on the 5000 block of East Miami River Rd in Hamilton County, and officials from the FBI + Hamilton County Sheriff’s office advised residents to steer clear of the area. WDTN

- ➤ Mallory Shannon, a fourth-grade teacher at Kiser Elementary in northeast Dayton, is in the quarterfinals of America’s Favorite Teacher, a contest by The Planetary Society. If she wins, she will receive a $25,000 check, a trip to Hawaii and a feature in Reader’s Digest — the contest winner is expected to be announced around May 31. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Kettering Fairmont High School held its 5th annual Walk for Hope yesterday to raise funds for its Hope Squad & promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The student-run event on the Fairmont Tract at Trent Arena kicked off Hope Week with a resource fair. WDTN
