  • Montgomery County Children’s Services reported a nearly 10% drop in abuse cases and a 9% rise in neglect cases in 2024 (county leaders urge residents to watch for signs of children in danger) as the Administration Building is lit blue this month to raise awareness.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • A local home improvement store at 1277 E Dayton Yellow Springs Road is accepting donations of pet supplies for Fairborn’s Humane Association from now through May — a collection box is placed at the exit doors for drop-offs.   • Today, rising water from rivers, creeks and ponds has caused disruptions for Miami Valley businesses— the Payne Rec Center in Moraine remains closed for a third day and the Box 21 Emergency Support Services headquarters on Island Metropark is flooded.  WHIO-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Trammell—aged 19—died in Montgomery County Jail in 2023 after striking his head multiple times and being restrained without receiving needed care, and his family along with the Montgomery County Jail Coalition held a rally Tuesday outside the jail to demand accountability and file a wrongful death lawsuit against the county, the jail healthcare provider, and several jail employees.  Dayton Daily News

  • Flooding has forced road and business closures across the region—signs remain posted as high water disrupts travel and commerce. Local officials are monitoring conditions and expect delays until floodwaters recede.  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UDRI and Machina Labs are testing the RoboCraftsman, an AI-powered machine that makes sheet metal parts on demand for the Air Force. The system—featuring two 7-axis robotic arms, a tool-changing system, and integrated scanning, trimming, and drilling functions—is being qualified at the University of Dayton’s new Integrated Technology Operations Center in Kettering as part of a project with the Air Force Rapid Sustainment Office.  Dayton Daily News
