  • Former members of the 4950th Test Wing will reunite in Dayton next month (May 5–8) to recall key moments, including a remembrance ceremony for the ARIA 328 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force auditorium on May 6. Veterans must register by April 15.  Dayton Daily News

  • Huber Heights’ new Buc-ee's opened Monday morning, April 6, 2026, after first responders previewed the 74,000 sqft station on Ohio 235 Friday. Early customers received coupons as the store began serving the public.  Dayton Daily News
  • Ohio’s first Buc-ee’s travel center opened on Monday, Apr. 6 in Huber Heights — customers waited overnight and local officials, including Gov. Mike DeWine and Mayor Jeff Gore, will join a ribbon-cutting today. Upgraded access roads and added traffic lanes support the growing visitor demand.  Dayton Daily News

  • Nominations are now being accepted for Dayton's Top Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties list by Preservation Dayton, Inc. Submission forms require properties to be at least 50 years old with notable architectural or historical significance, and the deadline is Wednesday, Apr. 15.  Dayton Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trotwood City Schools earned the Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education for a 6.3 point Performance Index increase & Trotwood Madison High School received the Building Momentum Award for an 11.6 point gain, officials said.  WHIO-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kettering's Tree Committee is launching a project to remove invasive Callery pear trees and replace them with native species that will benefit the urban forest (residents can receive discounts on removal and free saplings). The effort aims to improve stormwater management and reduce maintenance costs on city-owned land.  WYSO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road closures begin today in Kettering as water main valve repairs start Tuesday morning and will continue until completed — local officials advise drivers to follow detour routes.  WHIO-TV
  • The Department of Defense now allows service members on Wright-Patterson to carry personal firearms while on nonofficial duty, a spokesperson said Monday, April 6. The base will follow guidelines under a new rule signed by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth — further details have not yet been released.  Dayton Daily News
