ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A family of three was rescued on Sunday after their car became stranded in roughly three feet of moving water near Tipp City when the driver ignored road closed signs on Tipp Canal Road in Monroe Twp, prompting Tipp City Fire and EMS and mutual aid from other local agencies to perform a wading rescue that transported an adult male to UVMC while the mother and daughter were assessed on scene.  Dayton Daily News

  • Deputies are investigating a reported stabbing at a Montgomery County apartment complex—initial reports say that a male stabbed another male then left the scene.  WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local school districts expanded free breakfast + lunch options this school year, with schools serving more students and adding fresh fruits + salads to their menus. This change increases access to healthy meals for students who rely on school meals.  Dayton Daily News
  • Wright Library will host Radiate Night on Friday, April 11 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. to let teens in grades 7-12 ask experts questions about mental and physical well-being and get guidance on issues such as mental health crises, abuse, addiction, and bullying. Nine panelists from local groups including Artemis Center, Goodwill Easter Seals, NAMI Montgomery County Ohio, Public Health of Dayton and Montgomery County, and Q Plus Youth Center will answer questions while refreshments are available and artwork from the Dayton GEM Project is displayed.  Dayton937.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Miami County Emergency Management Agency released an updated list of flooded areas that led to several road closures — including routes in western Miami County, north of Troy, and east of Tipp City — as flood waters continue to rise. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Unclaimed Funds launched a new system that helps people claim part of the $4.8 billion in unclaimed funds from sources like dormant bank accounts and uncashed checks. The system lets claimants search for funds, upload documents, and track progress online—while business owners can file reports and remit funds efficiently.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Miami County Park District began cleanup work at Farrington Reserve after floodwaters receded yesterday – crews cleared mud and tree debris from trails and will fix gravel washouts to help prevent injuries. The district cautions residents to avoid dangerous water as they complete maintenance and repair work.  Dayton 24/7 Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Over 20,000 pounds of Johnsonville Brats Cheddar Bratwurst were recalled after hard pieces of plastic were found in sealed 19 oz firm tray packages—customers are urged to check freezers and discard or return any affected products. The Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the recall after learning some sausage had been distributed in Ohio.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • On Feb. 23rd, 1999, more than 500 fans gathered at the Crown Plaza ballroom to celebrate approval for Mandalay Baseball Properties to bring a minor league team to Dayton and launch a contest that received over 200 aviation-themed suggestions. The team eventually chose the name Dayton Dragons and announced it on May 3rd at Courthouse Square after a contest winner, 13-year-old Richard Burque, earned season tickets and team gear.  Dayton Daily News
