COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Daybreak is partnering with the state and Dayton police to respond to non-critical runaway calls through a program funded by a $550,000 state grant over two years. The initiative will connect vulnerable youth with housing and support services while adding four local jobs.  Dayton Daily News
  • Miami Valley Meals will distribute free prepared meals in a drive-thru on Friday, Apr. 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the City of Victory Deliverance Church in Trotwood — the meal packages include HoneyBaked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and a brownie, while pet food is also available.  WHIO-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A week after the fire on March 22 at the Fuyao Glass America plant in Moraine, residents remain concerned about safety as officials await a structural review (the blaze took 48 hours and used 20 million gallons of water, while Fuyao resumed work in unaffected plant areas).  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Trotwood’s planning commission approved a new Wawa on a 1.21-acre site at 2555 Shiloh Springs Road (the former Taste restaurant) that will boost local growth and create jobs.  Dayton Daily News
  • Godfather’s Pizza closed its Centerville restaurant in December and celebrated its grand opening yesterday at its new location at 4458 Clyo Road in Sugarcreek Township (featuring a larger dining area and a drive-through window for convenience).  WHIO-TV

  • A winning Powerball ticket with numbers 11, 42, 43, 59, 61 and Powerball 25 was sold in Ohio on March 29. Local officials note the sale comes amid a season of lottery play.  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will repair a local road (removing damaged pavement, installing a new base, and resurfacing to improve driving conditions) while it remains closed today and tomorrow.  WHIO-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Downtown Dayton's Centre City building will become The Mainline apartments with 121 units and commercial space after the city commission approved a $2 million grant with Centre City Residential LLC. The building stands 21 stories tall on Fourth and Main Streets and will help narrow the local housing gap.  Dayton Daily News
