Good morning, Dayton.
The Second Harvest Food Bank announced that its federal food shipment, scheduled to arrive between May and August, was cancelled on Wednesday.
The cancellation and the end of the LFPA program in June will cost $453,867 in food and reduce meals for 378,222 families — the agency warned there may be further cuts in the future.
A Dayton company, Infinity Labs, earned a spot on a $46B Air Force contract for developing new weapons systems using advanced computer modeling, simulation, and digital engineering.
The deal is managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Wright-Patterson with work led from Eglin— and 75% of Infinity Labs’ team is local.
A Miami County man pleaded guilty to killing his father when he shot him twice and was sentenced to 33 years to life in prison—this includes a three-year term for a firearm charge.
On Friday, Dayton filed a claim in response to Montgomery County’s lawsuit alleging a breach of the 2018 Water Supply Agreement—saying the city made needed infrastructure investments and safely provided water.
The city said the county did not meet its duties and that further cost cuts could add extra charges for residents.
Dayton police announced today they will set up a protest zone at a downtown parking lot for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly held from May 22 through May 26 while local activists led by Michael Harbaugh plan a peaceful protest and march—expected on May 24—to voice concerns about NATO and support local businesses. The city's security plan includes significant spending on law enforcement and equipment with state funds covering part of the costs as international visitors arrive.
Dayton will host the NATO Spring Parliamentary Assembly from May 22 to 26 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords.
Downtown areas will be restricted from May 21 to 27 as about 300 parliamentarians from 32 countries plus over 1,200 visitors arrive—public panel discussions at the Roger Glass Center for the Arts will inform residents about the event.
WGI Sport of the Arts returns to Dayton this April with competitions in Color Guard (April 3 to April 5), Percussion (April 10 to April 12), and Winds (April 12 to April 13) at venues including the University of Dayton Arena, Dayton Convention Center, and Nutter Center.
