- ➤ Spring has arrived and Dayton residents can enjoy cherry blossoms along several parks and routes. The Operation 2,000 Cherry Tree Project has planted over 1,400 trees at spots like Carillon Park and the National Museum of the US Air Force—featuring Yoshino and Japanese flowering cherries in white, pink, yellow and purple. - ➤ On March 25 at 7:18 p.m., a driver was shot in the face at a Quiktrip gas station on Edwin C. Moses Blvd. and taken to a nearby hospital for surgery while police investigated witnesses and a suspect. Dayton 24/7 Now
- ➤ The Fairborn Police Department investigated an overnight incident involving an 11-year-old student at Fairborn Intermediate School and set up increased police presence— the case was referred to Greene County Prosecutors Office while the school addressed safety concerns. Dayton 24/7 Now

- ➤ An investigation by the Dayton Daily News found that Dayton allocated $138 million in ARPA funds, issuing over half a million dollars in COVID relief that did not meet expected results. The report noted that a $200,000 grant to Ace Healthy Products was canceled for underperformance and a $178,100 grant to a North Main Street restaurant led to a request for repayment (county projects in Montgomery and Miami faced similar issues). - ➤ Vandalia officials are addressing safety concerns from heavy truck traffic that has strained local roads over the past 8 to 10 years. Interim police chief and soon-to-be full-time city manager Althouse will attend meetings in Washington today with a truck safety coalition while the city plans a ring road to divert trucks from busy streets. - ➤ Antonio Alvarenga, a 44-year-old from New Lebanon, remains in Butler County jail on illegal reentry charges after a 2012 deportation—his wife says official records show an Interpol Red Notice linking him to a 2001 homicide is a case of mistaken identity and she is working with attorneys to stop his deportation. - ➤ Montgomery County leaders approved a proposal on Tuesday for Homefull, Inc. to take over operations at the men’s shelter on Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton after St. Vincent de Paul announced it would end its services. The new operator will begin managing the shelter no later than July 1 to fill the gap in care for homeless men. Dayton Daily News
