- ➤ The family of Isaiah Trammell (a 19-year-old autistic man who died in jail custody in 2023) filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Dayton’s federal district court this month against Montgomery County and Naphcare Inc., saying he was denied essential medical treatment while on suicide watch. - ➤ On March 19, three local state representatives voted to adopt the 1905 Wright Flyer III as Ohio's official state airplane, affirming Dayton's role in aviation history and scheduling its permanent display at the Wright Brothers Aviation Center at Carillon Historic Park — the bill now goes to the Governor for review. - ➤ On Friday, Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims and state leaders asked the House Ways and Means committee to keep clean energy tax credits, saying that cutting them could hurt jobs and a $500M boost (with 2,000 new jobs) to the community. He said clean energy projects have brought more than 14,000 jobs and over $10.48B in energy investments statewide (helping local tax revenue) and that more details will come when the new budget plan is released. - ➤ At a downtown Q&A event, city officials, police and representatives explained plans to manage parking, traffic and safety as a large area of downtown will be restricted from May 21-27 for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Local business owners voiced concern that the shifting restrictions will hurt their operations and officials promised to work with law enforcement to ease disruptions—balancing security with the needs of area businesses.
