- ➤ A former Kettering City School District network administrator, Joey Irwin—56—pleaded guilty to one count of sexual imposition and one count of aggravated assault in connection with an incident from 11 to 12 years ago. - ➤ Dayton area residents filed a record 8,820 fraud complaints with the FTC last year, with imposter scams being the most common, and officials warn people to be cautious of unexpected calls, texts, emails or social media messages (since fraudsters may pose as government or business representatives to pressure victims into sending money). - ➤ The Ohio Department of Correction and Rehabilitation is planning to replace the Lebanon Correctional Institution on State Route 63 in Turtlecreek Township. An ODRC spokesperson said the project is in the early planning phase—architects and engineers will be chosen later—as the state proposed $30 million for a facility with a projected cost of $26.5 million. - ➤ A small group of union members from SEIU 1199 protested on March 19 outside Rep Mike Turner’s downtown office to ask him to block cuts to Medicare—Medicaid and Social Security—because they fear the changes will hurt local access to health services. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ The Dayton-made Wright Flyer III now awaits governor approval to become Ohio’s official state airplane after an 85-0 House vote on Senate Bill 24 (filed by Sen. Steve Huffman) on Wednesday.
