  • On Monday, the Best of Dayton contest kicked off with over three dozen nominations for Best Pizza and strong interest in categories like Best Breakfast, Best Bakery, and Best Massage Therapists—voters can nominate once per day in each subcategory. The nomination period remains open until March 28, giving residents a chance to support their favorites.  Dayton Daily News

  • A new smoothie shop called Better Blend will open on April 5 at 689 Lyons Road in Washington Twp near Planet Fitness. Founder Isaac Hamlin, a former University of Kentucky rugby player, will offer a variety of low-sugar, high-protein smoothies—which include smoothie bowls made with ingredients like acai and dragon fruit.  Dayton Daily News

  • A 45-year-old man was arrested for the deadly shooting of a 38-year-old woman in Dayton — police booked him into Montgomery County Jail on Monday on suspicion of murder and a temporary protection order violation.  WHIO-TV
  • Dayton Police responded to a reported shooting on Salem Avenue outside B&B Auto Glo, Lounge and Grill on Tuesday morning just after 3:00 a.m., and about five cruisers remained on the scene as investigators worked to learn more.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Two photographers from Dayton Daily News and Springfield News-Sun won multiple awards at the Ohio News Photographers Association contest—Bill Lackey earned honors for his Flag Retirement, Butterfly, and Tornado Aftermath images while Marshall Gorby received top placements for Wild Hose, Dog Rescue, and Tears.  Dayton Daily News
  • The Air Force Museum at Wright-Patt has added Braille signs and 3-D models to help visitors with visual impairments—working with the Xenia Public Library SPARKS Center and Sinclair Community College to offer American Sign Language interpretations on free guided tours this Saturday and April 26.  Dayton Daily News

  • Fans from across the country traveled to Dayton for the First Four on Tuesday with Fairborn High School coach Robert Schoder watching teams practice at the University of Dayton Arena—many drove long distances to attend. One fan, Bill Parsons, said he kept his tradition alive with his best friend who passed away a year ago.  WHIO-TV
  • Former Wayne High School basketball player Juan Cranford Jr. scored 18 points including five three-pointers for St. Francis in a 70—68 loss to Alabama State at UD Arena during the First Four opener. Cranford said playing in his hometown was a dream come true.  WHIO-TV
