  • Kettering Children’s Choir is the only local finalist for the $10,000 Community-Builder Award and needs votes by Feb. 28 to secure the funding. A win will support its new Voices for Wellness program that boosts youth leadership and well-being.  DaytonLocal.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wright State University and Premier Health are investing $6 million in a nursing program to train more healthcare professionals in Dayton. The investment will help expand enrollment and add new equipment this summer — with a second phase planned for summer 2027.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Dayton Public Schools announced plans for next school year to consolidate preschool classrooms to Rosa Parks Early Learning Center and River’s Edge Montessori due to state funding changes (no teacher layoffs are planned). The new configuration aims to save funds and expand options for families.  Dayton Daily News
  • On Saturday, Feb. 28, a sugar cookie decorating class will take place at the Dayton Metro Library Kettering-Moraine Branch community room in Kettering. Participants aged 8 and older will learn piping and icing skills and take home six decorated cookies after 1.5 hours.  Dayton937.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Dayton City Commission approved a $350K development deal with law firm Horenstein, Nicholson and Blumenthal if it retains 47 jobs (plus 10 new roles) over the next three years. The agreement will fund nearly $1.5M in building improvements to keep local payroll and tax revenue flowing.  Dayton Daily News
  • The American Heart Association is working with lawmakers to develop a sodium warning label bill that aims to boost heart health across Dayton. State Government Relations Director (Dustin Holfinger) said the effort supports February’s focus on heart health.  Dayton 24/7 Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA’s FSIS recalled more than 9,400 pounds of meatballs sold at Aldi on Feb. 23 due to potential metal contamination and advised customers to check and return affected products.  WHIO-TV
  • Kettering Health plans a more than $25M upgrade to care by renovating Greene Memorial and building a new Health Center at the REACH site across from the YMCA. Renovations finish by late 2026 and construction completes by end of 2028—work starts this spring.  Dayton Daily News

  • University of Dayton men's basketball head coach Anthony Grant is named the 2026 USA Men’s U18 National Team head coach for the FIBA AmeriCup, USA Basketball announced today.
