  • A missing pup named Blue was rescued after firefighters cut a hole in her family's dining room floor in Liberty Township. The dog had been missing for three days and is now recovering at home (owner Jayla Hyden says she is playful and adventurous).  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine visited CareSource employees Wednesday morning to thank them for supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library through the workplace giving program that promotes children’s literacy. The campaign enrolls (415,460) children across the state.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Falcon’s Wings and Grill, a new sports bar and grill at 2082 South Alex Road in West Carrollton, opens with a grand opening this Sunday — all food items are 20% off in time for the Super Bowl.   • UD's first Food and Culture Festival began Monday with roundtable talks and will continue with a free keynote by Michael Twitty (today at 5:30 p.m.) and double feature performances by the Dayton Opera on Friday and Saturday.  Flyer News
  • Woodland Cemetery & Arboretum in Dayton is hosting two tours this Black History Month to honor African American pioneers including poet Dunbar and former mayor McGee. The tours will guide visitors on walks to historic gravesites and explain the site’s legacy.  WHIO-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • More than 600 regional business leaders attended the Dayton Development Coalition Annual Meeting at the Convention Center on Wednesday, Feb. 4. DDC President Jeff Hoagland said 2025 projects generated 984 new jobs and $73.3 million in payroll while IBM leaders discussed tech advances (AI, hybrid cloud, quantum) boosting economic growth.  WYSO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A red-tailed hawk went missing from its defaced enclosure in Darke County, and officials said Spirit (the bird) is imprinted on humans and cannot fend for itself in the wild.  WHIO-TV
  • The city of Dayton will develop a 600-acre solar farm near Little Richmond Road and State Route 49 — AEP will purchase the energy to help limit rising bills for customers in its aggregation program. Site work begins this year and construction is set for early 2027.  WHIO-TV

  • The Ohio Attorney General’s Office announced that 947 homeowners who signed MV Realty contracts can cancel their agreements by notifying the broker and paying a fee until April 29 (exempting repayment of upfront funds), amid the firm's legal and bankruptcy issues.  Dayton Daily News
