- ➤ Six Dayton-area women will be recognized at the YWCA Dayton’s Women of Influence luncheon on March 1 at the Dayton Convention Center; one honoree will receive the Betsey Whitney Lifetime Achievement Award. - ➤ Joby Aviation is set to raise $1 billion through convertible senior notes + common stock to fund a capital-intensive production shift that will boost its eVTOL work in Dayton and Vandalia. - ➤ Wright State has proposed nearly $5.8M for upgrading storage and exhibit areas to safeguard its extensive Wright brothers archival collection at the main library (using donor funds through the Dayton Region PDAC process). - ➤ Franklin schools will seek approval for a 1% income tax with a 10-year expiration in May, following a split board vote to address a fiscal emergency risk. The measure aims to boost revenue after past levy failures forced cuts in services such as busing and all-day kindergarten. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ School districts in Montgomery, Clark & Butler counties now have access to a state pilot offering free vision screenings and eyeglasses, with Dayton Public Schools planning to join. Launched in late January, the program is expected to serve up to 14,000 children per year. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Dayton Public Schools is revamping classes at every grade level to better prepare students for local job opportunities through the Ford Next Generation Learning program (launched in October 2024), adding hands-on training, career academies and a planned barber program. - ➤ Record breaking cold weather broke water mains in the Dayton region, creating road holes and brief water pressure loss; Montgomery County Environmental Services crews isolated the breaks with repair bands (a temporary fix) and warned that more repairs would occur if ground movement continued. - ➤ Huber Heights City Council will consider creating a TIF district on Monday, Feb. 9 to support local improvements for the new Buc-ee’s on State Route 235. The district is projected to generate about $4.6M over 30 years, and the travel station will open at 6 a.m. Monday, April 6. Dayton Daily News
