ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A water main break on Thursday afternoon at East Stroop and Shroyer roads in Kettering disrupted traffic by funneling vehicles into the center lane and banning left turns while repairs took place; drivers were advised to allow extra travel time for safety.  Dayton Daily News
  • A water main break has closed a section of Kettering Road between Rose Bower + Chateau drives as crews repair the line; motorists are advised to allow extra travel time while emergency vehicles continue to access the area.  Dayton Daily News

  • Anduril is building Arsenal-1 in Ohio and has hired 50 workers so far as part of a 10-year plan to eventually employ 4,000 people. The project includes a production building (775,000 sqft) and an office space building plus a second building nearing 924,000 sqft, with full operations expected by 2035.  Dayton Daily News

  • The University of Dayton is hosting its Food and Culture Festival from Feb. 2-7 with local and national speakers and performances by the Dayton Opera on Friday and Saturday. Organized by Sam Dorf, the free festival (aside from three paid shows) will spark community conversation on food, culture and the humanities.  WYSO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Dayton announced major academic reorganizations — effective July 1, including moving Physics and Computer Science to the School of Engineering, merging Music with Art & Design, and combining Criminal Justice with Political Science. Faculty will host Zoom sessions to address questions as the changes roll out.  Flyer News
  • Cedarville University launches CedarBits, a four-week cybersecurity camp for middle schoolers starting Feb. 3 in the Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity at the Scharnberg Business and Communication Center. The camp, led by cyber students and experts, will teach computer safety and introduce career paths in cybersecurity.  Spectrum News 1

  • Kettering police closed a section of Marshall Road between David and Stroop roads after a water main break disrupted access. Detour signs are in place while crews work to restore service.  Dayton 24/7 Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Versiti Blood Center urges donors to keep appointments or sign up to donate this week at its center on S. Main Street (a winter storm cancelled many drives), leaving a shortage for 32 local hospitals. Donors who schedule in January and February receive a crewneck sweatshirt while supplies last.  Dayton Daily News
  • Faulty glucose monitors malfunctioned, leading to hospitalizations + some deaths among millions who rely on them to track their levels. The issue arose yesterday and has raised concerns among local healthcare providers.  WHIO-TV
