- ➤ With God's Grace is stocking up on food supplies at a local grocery store in case a government shutdown forces families to rely on emergency pantry boxes. - ➤ Today, the Department of Defense announced a $1B investment in L3Harris to boost solid rocket motor production for defense. The move will support the Mason facility (employing about 800 workers) and will proceed after Congress approves funding. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Cold December temperatures pushed households to use more heating and a recent AES Ohio rate increase boosted electric bills, officials said. Lower forecast temperatures this weekend may further raise energy use for next month's bills. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ Culture Works is partnering with the Dayton Masonic Center to revitalize and manage its performance and event venues. The historic building at 525 W. - ➤ Dayton Public Schools is reviewing its Alternative School at Jackson Center (serving up to 30 suspended or transitioning students with smaller classes and daily mental health debriefs) while planning to expand Innovative Academies that offer career-focused pathways, with further steps expected in March. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ CareSource, a Dayton-based health insurer, and Huntington Bank were awarded $6.9M in grants from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati to fund affordable housing programs. The funds are part of nearly $51.9M in subsidies to create 2,990 affordable units for low-to-moderate income residents. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ The state completed purchase yesterday of the former Hara Arena site that straddles Trotwood and Harrison Township and is planning to build a $300 million mental health hospital to create 500 jobs when operational by 2030 (a community forum on the project is planned for early February). WHIO-TV
- ➤ Dayton voters approved a property tax levy for a public hospital in West Dayton, and city leaders are weighing whether to contract a nonprofit or set up a mayor-run board. Tax collection starts in 2027 + public hearings will be held in late spring to gather community input. Dayton Daily News
