  • A collaboration between Dayton Daily News and Twisted River Coffee generated over $600 from December sales of its First Report Blend, which helped The Foodbank provide 2,500 meals for residents across Greene and Preble counties.  Dayton Daily News
  • Donations from local residents are funding a new larger playground at Bomberger Park after a suspected arson destroyed the old structure last summer. Equipment will be ordered in February + the park is set to welcome families later this spring.  Dayton 24/7 Now

  • Sinclair College will launch the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program for Miami Valley business owners this summer.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Jeff Wyler Automotive purchased the Columbus-area luxury auto dealership Midwest Auto Group for $500M. The acquisition rebrands the group as the Wyler Collection, uniting 14 luxury brands on one campus + expanding the company’s presence across the region.  Dayton Daily News
  • MeowZa! Cat Boutique opens today at Cross Pointe Shopping Center next to Dayton Humane & Co (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The new boutique offers unique cat finds and serves as an offsite adoption site for the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.  Dayton937.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central State University is offering one-time emergency grants to help students face sudden financial challenges during the 2025–26 academic year. The program is supported by over $400,000 (from a partnership with the United Negro College Fund and FanDuel Group Inc.) to keep students on track.  Dayton Daily News
  • Dr. Amy Acton visited Monroe Local Schools Wednesday to meet with high school students and administrators and discuss concerns about public school funding, the state voucher system, and adapting education for AI.   • A new workforce training program will begin in April at Sinclair for 18–30-year-olds seeking manufacturing careers in Montgomery County and Western Ohio; local employers and the Employers’ Workforce Coalition + partners will offer internships and credentials through a three-phase investment.  Dayton Daily News
  • Clark State College honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its annual MLK Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 15. Local organizations, students, and leaders were recognized for their community service (Taylor Nelson provided details).  Dayton 24/7 Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dayton approved a renewable energy purchase agreement with AEP Energy Partners for the Gem City Solar Project (600 acres) at Little Richmond Road and State Route 49 that will eventually produce enough electricity to power up to 14,665 homes (target capacity).  WHIO-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Huber Heights announced today over $100K in Economic Development Grants to local businesses, nonprofits, and veteran-operated firms. The grants, funded through the city's TED Fund, are meant to drive job creation and boost community growth.  WHIO-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local public health experts worry that the CDC's new schedule cutting routine vaccines from 17 to 11 may confuse parents and decrease immunizations. Ohio officials recommend parents consult pediatricians for guidance (official advice) to ensure children stay protected.  Dayton Daily News

  • Trotwood will soon see new single-family homes built in its Twin Creek neighborhood with prices set between $280,000 and $300,000. The project is part of an economic development plan to boost local job growth and property values, according to Mayor Yvette F. Page.  WHIO-TV
