- ➤ A West Chester Township family donated Downy, a two-year-old therapy dog from the Joshua Al-Lateef Jr. Foundation, to Lakota West High School to honor the memory of a lost boy. - ➤ Chosen Outreach Ministries held a coat and shoe giveaway on Tuesday to help hundreds of local kids stay warm this winter. WHIO-TV
- ➤ A Dayton playground at Bomberger Park will be restored before summer after a community campaign raised about $70,000 following last August's arson. The city will cover an extra $30,000 to replace the damaged play set for local families. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ On Wednesday, an RTA driver saw a burning house along his nightly route and knocked on the door to wake a sleeping homeowner. He used his bus’s fire extinguisher until the fire department arrived+ then returned to his route after 16 years of service. WHIO-TV

- ➤ Riverside council approved plans for a new 7 Brew Coffee drive-thru at 4211 Linden Ave — the existing venue will be replaced by a 790 sqft shop. The developer said more details will be shared next month as the property transitions. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ University of Dayton announced a campus master plan in partnership with Ayers Saint Gross to guide improvements over the next 10–20 years. Data sessions will be held at the RecPlex lobby (5–6:30 p.m. Jan. 21) and Kennedy Union lobby (noon-1:30 p.m. Jan. 22) for community input. Flyer News

- ➤ Wright State’s Center for Civics, Culture and Workforce Development has received a $3 million U.S. Education Department grant to boost civic literacy among K–12 educators and students across 16 counties (training and events begin summer 2026 on the Dayton Campus). Wright State University

- ➤ City leaders discussed two options for a public hospital voters approved with a levy in November 2025. One option calls for partnering with a nonprofit and voter approval while the other would create a mayor-run board — public meetings will be held to guide the final decision. WHIO-TV

- ➤ John and Andrea Hancock of Happy Wife Acres in Fairborn now promote raising quail instead of chickens amid local bans on the latter.
