  • Saturday, Jan. 17, The Brightside Event + Music Venue will host the free Great Big Plant Sale from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, where visitors can RSVP and sign up for workshops to learn more about upcoming events.  Dayton937.com
  • A Dayton RTA bus driver noticed a house fire during his route and quickly alerted residents—he grabbed a fire extinguisher until the fire department arrived.  Dayton Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Jan. 11, Montgomery County collected over 3,200 pounds of Styrofoam along with batteries and cardboard at holiday recycling events in the area. Organizers said the effort aims to reduce waste and promote recycling.  WHIO-TV

  • At a CareSource event on Thursday at the Pamela Morris Center, Dayton Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss said businesses and neighborhoods grow best when they work together, calling for strong partnerships and better community efforts.   • The city of Dayton will add 27 cameras to its automatic license plate reader program with an $88,500 grant—covering Twin Towers, Burkhardt, Residence Park, Miami Chapel and Redcrest—and the contract bans federal immigration searches and deletes data every 30 days unless used in a criminal investigation.  Dayton Daily News

  • Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County Medical Director Dr. Becky Thomas reviewed CDC changes (announced Jan. 5) that remove hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and some meningitis vaccines from routine recommendations, and she urged Dayton parents to consult trusted healthcare providers for clear vaccine advice.  Dayton 24/7 Now

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Franklin residents can voice feedback at a public hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Municipal Building (1 Benjamin Franklin Way) about a 113-home expansion plan for the Shaker Meadows subdivision. The project will cover 47.28 acres and include a playground and asphalt walking trails.  Dayton Daily News
