- ➤ The Dayton Foundation approved over $127,000 in grants to nearly two dozen local charities to help with food, shelter, clothing and healthcare. Interested organizations can apply for future funding by Feb. 12. WHIO-TV

- ➤ Slyder’s Tavern in Belmont reopened Monday after a kitchen fire on Saturday; the restaurant resumed service after a health inspection and repair of its grill and fryer (staff and patrons remained safe). Dayton Daily News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Isaiah Jackson, the first Black music director of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, died at 80; he led the orchestra from the 1987 to 1988 season and taught at the University of Dayton as an Artist in Residence, with a memorial service scheduled in Boston this spring. Dayton Daily News
- ➤ Comedian Mike Canestaro will premiere his western spoof movie Really Big Trouble at The Neon on Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. and a second screening will take place at Englewood Cinema on Jan. 24; the film, based on his book, was filmed locally at several Ohio sites. Dayton Daily News

- ➤ A bobcat was caught on a trail cam in Twin Valley on Jan. 6 after 8:45 p.m. Five Rivers MetroParks said its sighting shows the area supports healthy wildlife habitat — a sign of a thriving local ecosystem. WHIO-TV

- ➤ Beavercreek planners are reviewing Maronda Homes’ proposal to build 53 new houses, Creekwood Preserve, south of Ruston Drive, with home prices between $450k and $500k and upgrades including water and sewer improvements + traffic solutions. - ➤ Beavercreek planners approved Jason Woodard’s request on Wednesday to rezone nearly 9 acres of Wright State land at 3676 Col. Glenn Highway from agriculture to commercial, enabling future retail and restaurant development. The plan (which might cross into Fairborn) now heads to the City Commission for further review.
