  • Spirit EMS announced Tuesday that its Memorial Medic ambulance will display veteran reporter Steve Baker’s photo (a tribute to his decades-long service in sharing local news) to honor his legacy. Baker’s funeral was held Tuesday in Troy.  WHIO-TV

  • Hawthorn Aero is now the rebranded home for three CRG spinoffs, merging Spintech Holdings, Smart Tooling and Hawthorn Composites to offer more integrated aerospace and defense solutions in Dayton. The move boosts local employment to nearly 100, up from 23 earlier in 2025.  Dayton Daily News
  • A Colorado contractor, 413 Works, has applied to the Dayton Region Priority Development and Advocacy Committee for over $20.5 million to develop a secure conference space that will support military, defense and aerospace operations and be available for lease by government and industry partners.  Dayton Daily News

  • Local gas prices average $2.69 and remain unchanged by tensions in Venezuela, according to GasBuddy experts, while trucking companies like Home Run Inc. watch diesel costs closely + rising freight rates.  WHIO-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Franklin City Schools is holding a special meeting today at 5 p.m. at the Franklin High School Media Center (140 E. 6th St.) to discuss potential tax levy options after voters rejected a 1% income tax in November.  Dayton Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark County will start building a $108 million public safety center to benefit the community for years — a $10 million monument will be installed to honor Dayton as the birthplace of aviation.  Dayton 24/7 Now
  • Rep. Turner’s working group, which includes city and county leaders, calls for more social services, police presence, and enforcement in downtown to boost safety. The group urges a data-driven census of unhoused residents and a commission resolution at today’s meeting — planning a temporary substation for March.  Dayton Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents were urged to prioritize preventative health screenings as they set New Year goals. Dr. Joseph Allen from Premier Health (who outlined recommended screening schedules by age) encouraged updating care routines if check-ups had been missed.  Dayton 24/7 Now
