A Marine veteran wounded in the 1984 Beirut U.S. Embassy bombing received a service dog at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, through an initiative supported by ACV Auctions. Rich Leydet, a Purple Heart recipient, has spent years helping other veterans navigate the challenges of combat.

“It opens up the world to me.”

The veteran, to WHIO

He's had a service dog for years, and WHIO talked with him about what a new partner means. “I don’t really like crowds,” he said. Officials say the dog is trained to help support his daily needs.
